The ASEAN FLAG held its 69th Council Meeting in Panyu District, Guangzhou City, China on 16 and 18 April 2019. The meeting was hosted by Hi-Target China in collaboration with Guandong Industrial Technology Innovation Union of Satellite Navigation and Location-Based Services. Engr. Randolf Sevidal Vicente, President of ASEAN FLAG, presided the meeting.

Mr. Lee Helen represented the Surveying and Spatial Science Institute (SSSI) during the meeting. He updated the Council on the status of preparation for the SEASC2019 to be held in Darwin, Australia on 14-18 August 2019. President Randy stressed the point about giving the said event a primordial consideration as it is the flagship event of the Federation.

During the meeting, Council Member (CM) Datu HJ. Safar Bin Untong, Director, Lands and Surveys Department of Sabah, Malaysia, rendered his final report on Organizational Capacity Building under Working Group No. 7. Other leaders of various Working Groups likewise delivered their respective reports. A proposed Memorandum of Understanding was also presented by Hi-Target through its Marketing Director, Mr. Stefan Wei, which aims to establish mutual cooperation on: (a) education and talent cultivation; (b) technology and application promotion; and (c) disaster relief and reduction. Said MOU was referred to a Special Committee for further review.

On 17 April 2019, the International Technical Seminar was held at said venue with the theme: “Surveying and Mapping for Disaster Risk Management”. Most of the resource persons are from China. Members of the Council from ASEAN countries contributed as resource persons with the participation of Australia. About 70 delegates/professionals attended the seminar.

Guests from various provinces in China also attended the meeting and seminar. An exchange of token of appreciation between the ASEAN FLAG and Hi-Target was also carried out after the meeting.

In keeping with the tradition of strengthening unity and camaraderie, among others, Dinner/Fellowship Nights were also organized by the hosts.

President Randy expressed his heartfelt thanks to the host and partners as well as men and women behind the scene who assisted in making the meeting and seminar successful.
