The ASEAN Flag held its 70th and 71st Council Meeting, 15th ASEAN FLAG, 11th Biennial General Assembly Meeting in conjunction with 15th South East Asia Survey Congress from 14th August to 18 August 2020 held at Darwin Convention Centre, Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia.
With the honourable guest of honour, his excellency Dr Aladdin D. Rillo, Deputy Secretary General ASEAN Federation slated as the International Guest of Honour gracing the event, the ASEAN Federation of Land Surveying and Geomatics (ASEAN Flag) and Surveying and Spatial Science Institute (SSSI) jointly organised the 15th South East Asia Survey Congress. “Collaboration, Communication and Capacity Building” as the theme of the event, the workshops and plenary sessions focused on how surveying remains relevant to the needs of society through working collaboratively to meet the future technical, social and environmental challenges in digitally connected surroundings. About 500 surveyors across Asia Pacific including Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand attended the Congress. Congress delegates witnessed the signing of Memorandum of Understanding between ASEAN Flag and SSSI formally recognising each organisation as a regional partner, supporting both organisations in their respective endeavours, and actively collaborate on strategic undertakings of value to both sets of members.
The event has also saw the election of the 2019 – 2021 Council Members during its 11th Biennial General Assembly Meeting. President Gerry outlined the primary goals of the 2019-2021 newly elected Council are to fulfil the workgroups objective set earlier by the predecessors and to explore new ideas or challenges faced by the profession around the Asian region.
